Wisdom and Thought

ThoughtsDecember 9, 2008

Wow I have not been over here in a while. Just some quick thoughts my kids continue to excel in our homeschool.

Improvements for my daughter…

~Her reading skills continue to improve. I am impressed with her reading. I will admit I have had a tendency to help her with big words. I decided to instead of sounding it out for her…. I need to let her struggle with it for a few minutes and then help her.

~She is doing excellent with her Multiplication. I decided to print out a multiplication chart so she can be familiar with it. Everyday I give her mulitiplication problems and she finds the answer using the chart. I think by next month she will not need the chart. We also practice the multiplication chart without having it in front of her.

Improvements with my son…

~He has now mastered counting from 1 to 10. Very proud of him!

~He is now starting to write alphabet letters. We are on letter G now.

Everyday is a new acheivement for my kids! They are always doing something that makes me happy with the decision to homeschool them. I admit somedays are harder than other days. But I always remind myself on the hard days why I decided to homeschool.

ClassroomNovember 11, 2008

I really need to get in the habit of posting everyday. I had a rhythm until I got distracted with home remolding, I think is needed distraction. I love how my house is transforming! Yesterday the title floor was put down in the kitchen. I choose Terracotta for the tile. Today they are coming back to apply the grout. After the remolding projects I should be posting regularly.

This week my daughter is working out of this workbook.

This book is great for creative thinking and she loves working out of this workbook.

ThoughtsOctober 30, 2008

We have a lot of things going on. It has been a little hectic for our homeschool. We are in the middle of big home remolding projects. I have not been over here in a while to blog. Both my daughter and son are maintaining. My daughter is being introduced to some math that is challenging her and I love that. My son’s becoming a budding singer! He loves to make up songs and perform them, and reading to him is always an adventure. I have to stop off and on to answer questions he has pertaining to the book. Whatever book I am reading… it is never read quickly. I predict both of my kids are going to be bookworms.:)

FoodSeptember 30, 2008

I love baking for the kids! While they were at their cousin’s soccer game last night I made them some treats for snacks tomorrow.

Recipe

Ingredients

3 Tablespoons Margarine or Butter

1 Package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows or 4 Cups of mini marshmellows

( I always use the whole bag of regular marshmellows)

6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal

Directions

Melt margarine or butter in large saucepan over low heat.

Add marshmellows and stir until completely melted.

Remove from heat.

Add Rice Kripies cereal and stir until well coated.

Using a buttered spatula press mixture evenly into a 13x9x2-inch pan coated with cooking spray.

Cut into 2- inch squares when cool.:)

Not in order

*My daughter waiting for class to start.

* Reviewing her words for the spelling test. She takes a spelling test at the begining of the school day for now. I may moved her tests to the middle of the school day.

* Taking her spelling test.

*My daughter reading her assigned book for the day.

* My son reciting the date and the weather.

* My son’s supplies and worksheets. He wanted his hot wheel car on the table while he worked on his worksheets.:)

* My son’s flashcards… we go over them everyday.

ThoughtsSeptember 24, 2008

Just thinking about how well my kids are doing this school year. My daughter is really doing great with her reading. I am very proud of her. I will admit because of her personality I forget that she is 7 years old. Me and family members around her think she acts a little older than seven. I think because of that I tend to expect a little more out of her. I sometimes say things like you should already know that I am learning to curb that because I want school and the classroom to be fun for her not a hardship or something she has to get through.

My son is zooming through his textbook and actually at a much faster rate than my daughter did when she was in pre-school. I feel it is because over the last two years he has been watching and listen to me teach my daughter. I am proud and happy with his progession. One thing I have notice with him is that he tends to get very distracted and get bored with his lessons. One of the things that I am working on changing. Both my daughter and my son have different approaches to how they pick up their lessons. I love seeing them learn and grow.:)

Too often the educational value of doing well, however little, is overlooked. One thing well done prepares the mind to do the next thing better. Not how much, but how well, should be the motto. One problem thoroughly understood is more value then a score poorly mastered. - Booker T. Washington
